Hospital Based 911 Response

Hospitals will often be contracted by a village, town, or city to supplement their emergency services. Ambulances provided by Hospitals may be staffed by employees of the hospital or subcontracted from private companies to represent the hospital. The training for EMS personnel and equipment will be provided by the hospital while the infrastructure for 911 response will be provide by an outside governing body.

Experience Needed/Experience Gained: Different agencies will have different entry requirements. Some hospitals will require prior 911 experience while other agencies prefer to hire an EMT fresh out of class to help mold them as a provider. Working in hospital based 911 will afford the provider the opportunity to learn about the connection between pre-hospital care and follow through into the hospital itself.

Expected Potential Earnings: While salaries vary significantly from hospital to hospital and company to company, rule of thumb is is that these providers make more per hour and annually than municipal providers.
