Municipal 911 Services

The purpose of municipal based EMS is to provide ambulance services within the limits of their jurisdiction. In larger cities and counties, municipal EMS will often be the primary EMS service for their area. Municipal EMS may often be combined with other municipal services like fire suppression and police departments.

Experience Needed/Experience Gained: Most municipalities will not require prior experience, but hiring preference may be given to those will experience. Some municipalities offer an “academy” like training in which they teach a lay person with zero prior knowledge or experience and teach then from square one.

Expected Potential Earnings: Often salary based pay with benefits including healthcare and pensions systems, pay tends to be lower than that of hospital based EMS employees.
